Where to Find and Edit Meta Tags on Every Major Website Platform

By CJ Price

Meta tags may be small, but they’re a big deal for your SEO. They tell search engines and social platforms what your page is about, help improve click‑through rates, and create the first impression of your content. But depending on your website platform, finding and editing them can feel different every time.

This post walks through where to find your meta title and meta description (and OG/social settings, when available) on the most common platforms small business owners use.

Why Meta Tags Matter

Meta tags are snippets of text in your website’s code that describe your page to search engines and social networks. They include:

  • Meta Title: This is your headline in search results
  • Meta Description: This is the short blurb under your title that tempts the click
  • OG Tags: Optional social tags for Facebook, LinkedIn, X, etc.

Good meta tags = better visibility + higher click rates.

How to Find Your Meta Tags by Platform

Squarespace

Squarespace makes SEO settings accessible on every page and blog post.

Where to find them:

  1. Open your site in the Squarespace editor
  2. Go to Pages
  3. Hover over the page you want to edit and click the gear icon
  4. Select the SEO tab

Here you’ll see fields for:

  • SEO Title
  • SEO Description

Pro tip: Use descriptive, keyword‑focused titles that still read naturally — remember, this is for humans too!

Showit

Showit handles page SEO for your visual site, and WordPress handles SEO for your blog.

Where to find them (pages):

  1. Open the page designer in Showit
  2. Click the page you want to edit
  3. In the right sidebar, scroll to SEO Settings

Here you’ll find:

  • Page Title Tag
  • Meta Description

Where to find them (blog posts): Showit’s blog content is through WordPress, so you’ll edit meta tags inside WordPress SEO plugins like Yoast or RankMath (see below).

WordPress (with SEO Plugin)

If your site runs on WordPress and uses a plugin like Yoast SEO or RankMath, you’ll find meta tags right in the post editor.

Where to find them:

  1. Open the page or post you want to edit
  2. Scroll down to the SEO plugin section (Yoast or RankMath)
  3. You’ll see fields for:
    • SEO Title
    • Meta Description
    • Social/OG Title & Description

Tip: Fill out both the search snippet preview and the social tab — they look different on Google vs. social networks.

Webflow

Webflow gives you full control inside the page settings.

Where to find them:

  1. In your Webflow Designer, go to Pages
  2. Click the settings gear next to the page
  3. Scroll to the SEO Settings section

Here you can edit:

  • Title Tag
  • Meta Description
  • Open Graph Title
  • Open Graph Description
  • Social Sharing Image

Shopify

Shopify lets you edit SEO fields for products, collections, pages, and blog posts.

Where to find them:

  1. Open the item (product, page, etc.)
  2. Scroll down to Search engine listing preview
  3. Click Edit website SEO

You’ll see fields for:

  • Page Title
  • Meta Description
  • URL Handle

Remember, Shopify truncates descriptions around ~150–160 characters, so make every word count!

Meta Tag Best Practices (Across Platforms)

No matter where you edit them:
✅ Write unique meta tags for every page
✅ Include your target keyword (naturally)
✅ Keep titles ~ <60 characters and descriptions ~150–160 characters
✅ Write for humans first — search engines second
✅ Preview how tags look in Google before publishing

Quick Checklist

Before you publish a page, ask:
✔️ Does the meta title describe the page clearly?
✔️ Does the meta description invite a click?
✔️ Are keywords used naturally?
✔️ Did I add a compelling call to action?
✔️ Have I updated social/OG tags with a share image if available?

Hey! I’m CJ.

I like to call myself a “Website Architect,” aka your go-to for building websites that work harder, not just look pretty.

Before starting Ivingo Creative, I was running a tent + event rental company with my husband (yes, the full wedding/festival chaos). I taught myself how to get us to the top of Google, and realized I was more into strategy than setup.

Now I help small business owners and service pros build websites with structure and substance — grounded in SEO, conversion strategy, and content that actually connects.

When I’m not mapping CTAs or yapping about SEO or conversion strategies, I’m off-grid with my family, a strong marg, and a break from my screen.

Let’s make your website the most strategic part of your business so you can take a break, too.
