Optimizing for Chat GPT Search: A New Era in SEO

Have you noticed how more people are using AI tools like ChatGPT to find quick answers and helpful information? Now that ChatGPT can search the web, there’s a new way your website can show up in search results. But how do you make sure it does? Let’s break down what it means to optimize for ChatGPT (don’t worry, we’ll keep it simple!) and how this shift in search can benefit your business.

Why Bother with ChatGPT Optimization?

Think about this: when people ask ChatGPT a question, they want a quick, clear answer without a lot of scrolling. AI tools like ChatGPT pull up information based on how clear, organized, and relevant it is to a question. If your website is set up to provide direct answers, it’s more likely to show up when someone asks a related question. This is why it’s worth adapting your content now to make it more “AI-friendly”!

Start with Clear and Structured Content

To help ChatGPT (and other search engines) understand your content, it needs to be organized. Here’s what we mean:

  • Create FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) pages that cover questions your clients often ask.
  • Use headers and subheaders to organize sections. Think of them like chapter titles in a book that guide the reader.
  • Add schema markup (a fancy term for special tags that tell search engines what parts of your site mean, like marking an address or a phone number). Schema helps AI tools quickly find relevant details to answer questions. Schema Markup Definition: It’s a code you add to your website to help search engines understand what each part of a page is about. Think of it as adding labels to your content, like “This is my address” or “Here’s a review.”

Use Keywords People Actually Say Out Loud

When people talk to ChatGPT, they ask questions like they’re talking to a friend, not typing formal search terms. To align with that:

Try to use natural language or longer keywords in your content. Instead of “best flowers Maryland,” try “Where can I find the best flowers in Maryland?”

Include phrases that match common questions, like “How can I…” or “What’s the best way to….”

Try to think of what other questions they’d ask if they could keep the conversation going and answer those too!

Depth Matters: Go Beyond the Basics

ChatGPT loves well-rounded, detailed answers. It’s more likely to pull information from content that’s comprehensive and useful. That means:

  • Add extra context, examples, or steps to your answers, so they’re more complete.
  • Keep content current and relevant. If things change in your industry, update your content to stay on top.
  • Avoid quick, shallow responses. Instead, think of what’s most helpful to your audience and deliver that!

Keep It User-Friendly

The best content for ChatGPT is also the best content for users. Here are a few ways to make sure your site gives a good experience:

  • Make sure your pages load quickly and work well on mobile. No one wants to wait, especially AI users looking for fast answers.
  • Establish trust with your audience. For example, add author bios, reviews, and any certifications to show your authority. Mobile Optimization Definition: It means making your website look and work great on a smartphone or tablet, so visitors can have a smooth experience even on a small screen.

Think About User Intent: What Do They Want to Do Next?

Users often come to ChatGPT with a specific goal in mind, like learning a new skill or finding a local service. Help them get there by:

  • Adding calls-to-action (CTAs) that suggest what to do next, like “Book a Consultation” or “Download Your Free Guide.”
  • Answering common “how-to” or “step-by-step” questions, which work really well for ChatGPT’s format.

Staying Ahead: Embracing AI-Friendly SEO

As ChatGPT and similar tools become more popular, optimizing your content for these platforms will set your business up for success. It’s all about making your content easy to find, easy to understand, and helpful for anyone asking questions online.

At Ivingo Creative, we’re here to help you navigate these changes in SEO and create content that works in this new AI-driven world. Curious about how your website could work better with ChatGPT? Reach out and let's explore your options together!

Founder CJ of Ivingo Creative

Hey! I'm CJ.

I like to call myself a "Website Architect," aka your go-to for building websites that work harder, not just look pretty.

Before starting Ivingo Creative, I was running a tent + event rental company with my husband (yes, the full wedding/festival chaos). I taught myself how to get us to the top of Google, and realized I was more into strategy than setup.

Now I help small business owners and service pros build websites with structure and substance — grounded in SEO, conversion strategy, and content that actually connects.

When I’m not mapping CTAs or yapping about SEO or conversion strategies, I’m off-grid with my family, a strong marg, and a break from my screen.

Let’s make your website the most strategic part of your business so you can take a break, too.
