AI Isn’t Replacing Trust, But It’s Changing How People Find It.

Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to join a panel at Wed Society Connect 2026 for Eastern Shore & Delaware alongside hospitality and wedding industry leaders from across Delaware and Maryland's Eastern Shore. Together, we discussed a topic that seems to be on everyone's mind lately: artificial intelligence, changing search behavior, and what it all means for businesses trying to connect with potential customers.

While the conversation focused on the wedding industry, the themes that emerged extend far beyond weddings.

Whether you're a venue owner, florist, contractor, retailer, service provider, or consultant, the way people discover businesses is evolving. The businesses that understand these changes will be better positioned to earn attention, build trust, and convert interest into inquiries.

People Want Answers Faster Than Ever

One thing we circled back to a few times during the discussion: consumers are becoming increasingly efficient researchers.

A couple planning a wedding might start with Google, ask ChatGPT for recommendations, scroll social media, watch videos, read reviews, visit a website, and ask friends for advice, all before ever contacting a vendor.

The same behavior is happening across nearly every industry.

People expect quick answers to their questions! They want to understand what you do, who you serve, what makes you different, and whether you're the right fit without having to dig through multiple pages of content.

As AI-powered search experiences continue to grow, businesses that provide clear, useful information are more likely to be discovered and recommended.

The Search Landscape Is Changing

Across the websites I manage, I'm seeing a trend that many marketers are discussing behind the scenes: visibility is increasing, but clicks are becoming harder to earn.

Google continues to show more answers directly within search results. AI tools are summarizing information before users ever visit a website. Consumers are gathering information from multiple platforms before making decisions.

This doesn't mean websites are becoming less important, but it does mean that websites now have a different job than they did five years ago.

Your website is no longer just trying to attract traffic. It is also now increasingly responsible for helping visitors build confidence once they arrive.

Trust Is Still the Deciding Factor

Despite all the discussion around AI, one theme surfaced repeatedly during the panel: Trust still matters. Technology may influence how someone discovers your business, but it rarely becomes the reason they choose your business.

People still look for:

  • Reviews
  • Referrals
  • Recommendations
  • Real examples of your work
  • Proof of expertise
  • Consistent experiences

In many ways, AI makes trust even more important. When information becomes easier to generate, authenticity becomes more valuable.

The businesses that consistently demonstrate expertise, share real experiences, and build strong reputations within their communities will continue to stand out.

Clarity Is Becoming a Competitive Advantage

One of the most practical takeaways from the conversation was how often businesses lose opportunities simply because they make customers work too hard to understand them.

Can visitors quickly determine:

  • What services you offer?
  • Who you serve?
  • Where you work?
  • What makes you different?
  • What happens next?

Many businesses focus heavily on attracting more traffic while overlooking what happens after someone arrives.

Clear messaging, straightforward navigation, helpful content, and obvious next steps often have a greater impact on conversions than another blog post or social media campaign.

The businesses earning attention today are often the ones making decisions easier.

Expertise Isn't Going Anywhere

AI can summarize information but it cannot replace experience.

It cannot replicate years of local knowledge, hands-on problem solving, industry relationships, or the ability to guide someone through an important decision.

Whether it's a wedding venue helping couples navigate logistics, a contractor managing a complex project, or a consultant helping a business grow, expertise remains incredibly valuable.

Technology may change how people find experts, but it does not eliminate the need for experts.

Everything is Changing, But Fundamentals Remain Consistent

The tools are changing, consumer behavior is changing, search is changing, but the fundamentals still remain remarkably consistent.

People want answers, confidence, and they want to work with businesses they trust. AI isn't replacing trust, it's just replacing how people find it to begin with!

The businesses that focus on being helpful, visible, clear, and trustworthy will continue to earn attention regardless of what new platform, algorithm, or technology emerges next.

Let's Continue the Conversation!

The questions surrounding AI, search, and changing consumer behavior aren't going away anytime soon.

As someone who manages more than 50 websites across multiple industries, I spend my days inside the data, watching how people search, what earns attention, and what actually drives conversions. My goal isn't to predict the future. It's to help businesses understand what is changing, what is not, and what actions are worth taking right now.

If you're planning a conference, association meeting, workshop, industry event, or leadership retreat and are looking for a speaker who can make complex digital trends practical and approachable, I'd love to be part of the conversation.

My presentations focus on topics such as:

  • AI and the future of search
  • Consumer behavior and changing buying habits
  • Conversion optimization and website strategy
  • Building trust in an increasingly digital world
  • What business owners should actually pay attention to (and what they can ignore)

Whether your audience includes business owners, marketers, nonprofit leaders, wedding professionals, or industry associations, my goal is always the same: to turn overwhelming trends into useful, actionable insights people can apply immediately.

Founder CJ of Ivingo Creative

Hey! I'm CJ.

I like to call myself a "Website Architect," aka your go-to for building websites that work harder, not just look pretty.

Before starting Ivingo Creative, I was running a tent + event rental company with my husband (yes, the full wedding/festival chaos). I taught myself how to get us to the top of Google, and realized I was more into strategy than setup.

Now I help small business owners and service pros build websites with structure and substance — grounded in SEO, conversion strategy, and content that actually connects.

When I’m not mapping CTAs or yapping about SEO or conversion strategies, I’m off-grid with my family, a strong marg, and a break from my screen.

Let’s make your website the most strategic part of your business so you can take a break, too.
